Initial links using ZOOM with China

zoom chinaA pilot model inspiration

In the beginning …. 2014 Heather Lin (Chinese teacher – Canadian Lead PS) and Jo Tate (then a part of the DEECD DIgital Learning Team) began working on a project that used freely available technologies to link with a school in China (Yuxiang Primary School – English Teacher Cindy).  This initial pilot was the inspiration that lead to Digtal LYNC becoming a real possibility because it demonstrated what could be achieved when schools shared curriculum.  The pilot centred around the painting of a giant canvas with half painted in Australia and the other half painted in China.  Video Conferencing sessions were held primarily between art classes.  Later in 2014 a delegation from China visited Ballarat and we are really looking forward to this and a formal MOU signing.

Most recently Heather Lin  trialled the use of ZOOM for peer to peer work for students. This is achieved by installing the free version of ZOOM onto a classroom of computers.  Ensure all students in both countries have an email address. The computers need to have a camera and earphone set or use ipads.   The Ballarat students then open Zoom and invite the students in China to join the meeting.  We are hoping that peer to peer tutoring will enable students to work more closely with the respecitve languages.   Heather  introduced a second Ballarat school into the project before taking personal leave in 2015
